    Horror movies help you lose weight! How many calories do they burn

    Researchers have compiled a ranking of the “most useful” films

    Watching a 90-minute horror movie burns an average of 150 calories. This is about the same amount that goes during a 30-minute walk or light jog, according to a study conducted at the University of Westminster, cited by UNILAD Tech.

    The experiment involved 10 people who watched 10 different horror films. The researchers found that intense scenes in horror films increase heart rate and stimulate metabolism, causing the body to spend more energy.

    Although the number of calories burned depended on both the viewer and the level of fear, the conclusion is clear – the scarier the film, the more intensely the body burns calories.

    “Each of the 10 films made viewers’ hearts beat faster. When the heart rate increases and blood circulates faster, the body experiences a rush of adrenaline. This hormone, produced during short-term stress or fear, reduces appetite, increases basal metabolism and promotes increased calorie burning,” noted Dr. Richard Mackenzie, a senior lecturer and specialist in cellular metabolism and physiology.

    The scariest movies: What scientists discovered

    In addition to the main experiment, the researchers ranked the films based on their “horror” and the number of calories burned:

    Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” (burned an average of 184 calories);

    “Jaws” (161 calories);

    “The Exorcist” (158 calories).

    The list also included “The Killer Jigsaw” (133 calories), “A Nightmare on Elm Street” (118) and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (107).
